Help! My Pet’s Hair is Everywhere.

Summer is a time for shedding. However, if you have pets you know they generally shed a bit all year long. Getting that pesky hair off can be a pain. Here are some tips to help you solve or at least minimize the problem.

1. Start from the bottom up and attack your floors first. Before you whip out the vacuum, we recommend using a mop with an electrostatic charge to attract the hair and dander. This will take up a good portion of hair without the vacuum dispersing the hair before it gets the chance to suck it up.

2. If you have carpeting try sprinkling some baking soda on before you vacuum. This will loosen up the fibers, making the hair easier to remove. While vacuuming, be sure to go over problem areas at least three times in different directions to pick up the most hair possible.

3. Furniture is next. For hard surfaces, try using a cloth sprayed with a tiny bit of water. Don’t use too much or it will streak. The cloth will attract dust and hair, just remember to keep cleaning it so you don’t spread hair as you go.

4. To clean upholstered furniture, you need to create some friction. Using a damp rubber glove, sponge or squeegee works best. Just rub your instrument of choice along your furniture and watch the hair come up.

5. Now for the laundry. Before washing your clothes, put them in the dryer to tumble without heat. This will loosen the fabric which makes it easier for the hair to come out in the wash.

6. After the clothes have been washed, shake them out one more time before placing them in the dryer. We also recommend using a dryer sheet to help ease static cling, making the hair less apt to stick to your clothes.

7. Don’t forget your pets! Brushing and bathing them on a regular basis significantly cuts down on shedding. The less hair on them, the less hair on you.
