Comforter Q & A

As the fall weather continues to get cooler, many of us like a little more warmth at night- a comforter can provide that. There are many options to consider before choosing  a comforter, let us help make that choice a little easier:

There are two different types of comforters to choose from, down and down alternative. Down comforters are naturally insulated with goose feathers, as opposed to down alternative comforters which are made with a synthetic fiber.

Goose down is often better at regulating temperature than down alternative. The amount of down is measured in “fill”, the higher the fill, the more the warmth, i.e. 500 fill, 600 fill etc.

Down tends to be lighter which, for some, can be more comfortable.

Down alternative comforters are usually better for those who suffer from allergies to feathers.

Down alternative can also be less expensive.

When purchasing either a down or down alternative comforter look for “baffle box” construction. Baffle box is a sewn box pattern that keeps the filling from bunching up.

Once you have made you decision you should protect your comforter with a duvet cover, which keeps it clean and prolongs its life.

Fluff or shake your comforter regularly to disperse the down clusters or fill with air and renew their loft.

Air your comforter outside a few hours twice a year to maintain freshness.
If your not using your comforter, have it cleaned before you store it. Make sure it’s in a breathable bag in a well-ventilated area. Plastic bags can trap moisture, that can lead to mildew.
To clean your comforter, bring it to Best and leave the hard work to us!
