Campus Prep – Decorating your dorm room

We know that campus life is exciting, but leaving the comforts of home and preparing for dorm living is a big change. Here are some tips for making your dorm room feel more like home.

Lighting – Dorm room lighting can have an institutional feel so bring a desk or side lamp with a decorative shade. Not only will it add a pop of color, it’s great for late night cramming without bothering your roommate.

Curtains – Chances are your dorm comes with less than desirable (if any) window covering. You can add instant life to your room by adding your own. If you’re handy you can make a custom curtain from an old sheet or remnant fabric.

Rugs – A small throw rug in a funky shape or color can instantly add some life to your dorm room. If there’s already carpeting, don’t worry, just throw it on top.

Indoor Plants – Even a small plant, or two, in a container can add some personality and homeyness to your room. Check out your local garden center or grocery store to find something small and easy to take care of.

Photos – There’s nothing like the real thing. So many of our photos are on our devices, so why not pick a few of your favorites to frame and hang on the wall or put on your desk. Have too may to choose from? Try a digital photo frame.

Bedding – Make sure all your comforters, linens and towels are clean. And make the process easy by letting Best handle that part! Since your bed is often the focal point of your room, making sure it’s neat and tidy will complete the look.
