Wearing white after Labor Day? Yes it’s okay!

We all remember our parents telling us that wearing white after Labor Day was a big no-no. But where did that rule come from? There are several theories, one stating that because white clothing was much cooler in the summer months, when families came home from vacationing it was time to put away their impractical lightweight whites and get back to their more practical and formal city clothing for the coming cooler months.

Because the fashion industry is ever changing, fashion editors everywhere finally dismissed the rule and shunning white after Labor Day became a thing of the past. The new rule says don’t stop wearing white just because Labor Day is over – you’ve made an investment in your white things and they deserve to be worn!

So how do you wear white after Labor day? Celebrity stylist Robert Verdi suggests “pairing whites (whether they’re jeans, a blazer, a bag) with a silhouette that is decidedly fall, like a navy velvet cigarette pant (that way it will look less summery) or a wool fedora. For newly purchased items, choose cream and ivory colored pieces since they’re less jarring, and always opt for white, cream, and ivory-colored items in fall fabrics.”

How do you keep your whites at their brightest?  Bring them to Best!
