LEATHER: HOW TO CARE FOR FASHION’S LATEST TREND

If you look around leather is everywhere. As beautiful as it is, it can be very expensive and difficult to care for so we compiled some great tips for keeping your investments looking their best:

1. Avoid using hairspray, perfume or cologne while wearing your leather.

2. Always hang leather garments on padded hangers to help retain their shape.

3. Avoid storing your leather in plastic or non- breathable covers as they can cause the leather to dry out. If your storing for long periods of time use an old sheet for protection instead.

4. Keep leather out of direct sunlight and heat to prevent fading and avoid very humid or dry environments.

5. Use a leather conditioner to help repel water and to keep your garments soft and pliable. Conditioning at least 4 times a year, or more is a good idea if your leather is regularly exposed to rain or sun.

6. If your leather gets wet, blot dry with a towel, hang up and dry at room temperature away from any heat sources. Once the garment is dry, apply leather conditioner. Natural drying sucks moisture out of leather and can cause it to become brittle or crack over time.

7. If your leather gets stained and the stain is fresh, simply wipe it off with a soft, damp cloth. Do not rub!

8. If the stain is oily, sprinkle baking soda on it and let sit overnight to allow the baking soda to absorb the oil. Then wipe off with a damp cloth.

9. Do not use regular fabric stain removers on your leather as they are likely to damage your garment.

10. Leather protectants and cleaners can be purchased at many department stores and specialty shops. When using specialty leather cleaner, always test in an inconspicuous area first. Dab a little cleaner on and blot with a soft white cloth. If no color from the garment bleeds onto the cloth, the cleaner is safe to use.

11. If all else fails, or you do not want to attempt cleaning the garment yourself, bring it to Best. Our GreenEarth cleaning system is safe on leather and suede and can get most stains out.
