Burrr, it’s chilly outside, sweater season is upon us!  Whether they’re woolen, cotton or acrylic, they’re knits, making them vulnerable to stretch and strain. Here are some great tips on how to care for your sweaters throughout the winter season.

Don’t leave them hanging  Sweaters belong in your dresser or chest, not your closet. Fold them neatly and keep them flat, try to give them enough space and not smush them together.

Shape them up  When sweaters lose their shape, they need extra help. Drycleaning is a good solution for most sweaters, especially acrylics, silks and woolens, which aren’t easy to restore.  For cotton sweaters, hand-wash, pad the areas you’d like reshaped and dry flat.

Avoid friction  The less time sweaters spend under a coat or rough fabrics, the better.

Give your sweater the brush off  To remove fuzz, hair, and lint, but do so gently by using a soft bristled brush.

Be kind to cashmere As it is delicate and luxurious, so be sure to dry-clean or hand wash only. If you choose to hand-wash, use cool water, rinse well, and never wring the garment. Dry it flat and reshape it as it dries.  Best to press it while it’s still slightly damp, on the wrong side of the garment with a thin cloth over it.
